ABOUT BUKAL SINING
Over the past years, CANVAS has been giving away its award-winning picture and activity books to children in poor and disadvantaged communities throughout the Philippines. Since we started actively giving away books in 2011, we have been able to publish and give away nearly five hundred thousand (500,000) copies of these books, not including several thousand copies of our hardbound children’s books to libraries all over the country. We are able to raise funds by partnering with corporations and institutional funders, as well as through small donations from individuals. These funds, however, are restricted and are used only to fund our bookgiving initiatives. 100% of individual donations go to the publication of books.
Funds to cover all other costs, such as book development, transportation and distribution, as well as CANVAS’ operating expenses, are raised through other means, such as through grants and sales of artworks and books.
To be more effective, the Bukal Sining Members Program was set up to create more stable and sustainable sources of income, which could then enable CANVAS to plan, budget and grow for a longer period. Individuals who believe in CANVAS' mission, and who are seeking greater involvement in its pursuit comprise Bukal Sining. Members commit to donate at least Ten Thousand Pesos (P10,000.00) per month in unrestricted funding for a minimum of two (2) years. By providing multi-year unconditioned support, they help to create stability, and allow CANVAS to plan more efficiently for the future.
Bukal Sining donations not only help to cover CANVAS’ overhead and administrative costs. They are also used to respond to sudden opportunities and challenges, especially now as we pursue our two main goals of giving away a million books, and building a children’s museum of Philippine art.
In return, Bukal Sining members will receive the following benefits:
Donations are tax-deductible. CANVAS can provide members with PCNC-accredited tax-deductible certificates at the end of each tax cycle.
Members will receive quarterly newsletter reports detailing upcoming shows, books and events.
Members receive complimentary copies of all CANVAS books.
Members receive invitations to exclusive CANVAS events, including book giving events, open studios, special fundraisers and gallery openings, among others.
Bukal Sining Members are often, though not always, given priority previews for available works in CANVAS shows, projects and events.
